The current research phase, Transformative Britain, builds upon and extends previous research done by the Centre during the Gratitude Britain and Service Britain phases. The proposed new projects explore aspects of character in the contexts of professions, character development, spirituality/religion and teacher training.
The primary research questions the Transformative Britain projects will seek to answer are:
- How can we bridge the gap between virtue literacy and virtue reasoning, on the one hand, and actual virtuous conduct, on the other?
- How can efforts at character cultivation be extended to domains that lie outside of formal educational contexts, for example by building bridges to parents?
- How can efforts at professional character cultivation, which we have explored so far in relation to a few standard professions, be extended to professional practice more generally?
