A Library of Lemons by Jo Cotterill is a heart-warming story about compassion and loss. Following the death of her mother, Calypso retreats to a world of books. Unfortunately, she is not helped in her grief by her father, who seemingly finds his own grief very difficult to bear. Enter Mae, the new girl at school, and Calypso finds herself exactly what she needs – friendship and compassion. The girls’ shared love of fiction, and their admiration for each other, allows Calypso to feel ‘normal’ again. This is a beautifully written book, dealing with sensitive issues in a tender way.
