Professor Marvin Berkowitz (Sanford N. McDonnell Professor of Character Education at the University of Missouri – St Louis) gave a key note address at the 7th Biennial Teachers Conference held in Singapore on 3rd - 4th June 2014. The conference, entitled ‘Values across the curriculum: Inspiring learning, shaping lives’, focused on the role of teachers as character coaches who foster the holistic development of students into self-directed individuals, confident persons, active contributors and concerned citizens. This two day event attracted approximately 2,500 attendees.
Professor Berkowitz's address entitled “Understanding what really fosters character and values” focused on the following topics: prioritising character education, the role of relationships, intrinsic motivation, modelling and empowerment. The former Singapore Ambassador to both the US and the UN - Professor Kishore Mahbubani also delivered a key note address.
