Dr Tom Harrison gave a presentation entitled Character Education Theory and Practice at the Liberal Democrats Education Association (LDEA) conference. The conference was entitled ‘Education for Real Life’ – and explored key themes relating to a fuller conception of education, including character education and wellbeing. Tom’s presentation made the case for character education and explained why civic, moral, performance and intellectual virtues are the basis for individual and societal flourishing. The presentation explained why virtue ethics provides a strong theoretical foundation for approaches to character education. The LDEA intend to use the findings from the conference to inform their future policies on the theme.
