Dr. Kristian Guttesen has recently completed his PhD studies at the Jubilee Centre, supervised by Professor Kristján Kristjánsson and Dr. Tom Harrison.
Kristian Guttesen, born 1974 in Denmark, has lived most of his life in Iceland, where he has worked as a teacher, programmer, translator and writer. He is currently employed at the Directorate of Education in Iceland, where he works on projects in relation to educational research in Europe.
His doctoral thesis, 'Character Education Through Poetry', explores poetry teaching, creative writing teaching and the utilisation of philosophical dialogue in the classroom as tools for developing virtue literacy amongst young learners, aged 14-15. The outcomes that emerge from the finding can be categorized with respect to four overarching themes that identify the role and possibilities for utilising poetry for character education in the Icelandic school system. These are Freedom, Creativity, Wonderment, and Time.
The Centre extends its congratulations to Dr. Guttesen on this important milestone.
