The Research Excellence Framework (REF) is a peer assessment of the quality of UK higher education research in all disciplines that takes place every six years. Impact is defined as ‘an effect on, change or benefit to the economy, society, culture, public policy or services, …or quality of life, beyond academia’. The Jubilee Centre submitted a case study of its impact that detailed research produced by staff which identified the social, policy, and educational impacts that have taken place beyond academia and which are underpinned by internationally recognised research. Developing a ‘provable’ story by putting together causal links to demonstrate that research has led impact is an extremely challenging task.
