Welcome From Centre Director

Welcome to the Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues.

I am privileged to lead a Centre that, through its research and development work, has achieved tremendous impact and influence in education policy, both here in the UK, and internationally. We have helped shaped policy in the UK and engaged with organisations and individuals in all six continents. Our impact aims to fulfil the vision for the Jubilee Centre, founded by Professor James Arthur in 2012, to transform individuals and society through a focus on character, virtues and character education.

Over the past 14 years the Centre has contributed important theoretical, empirical and practical insights that have underpinned a revival in character education in the UK, Europe and in many places further afield. We have undertaken world leading research on big questions such as: what is character and character education?; , how can character be educated in homes, in schools, in universities, in the professions and in wider society?; and, how can character be measured?

Excellence and innovation are my watchwords as Director of the Centre. You can expect excellence in the quality of our established activities, such as our international conference, taught programmes, research, teaching resources and impact. We will also continue to innovate to ensure that the Centre continues to address the pressing and complex questions of the day about what is needed to enhance individual and collective flourishing, especially in an increasingly digital mediated world.

We cannot do this work alone and I want to make sure that the Jubilee Centre continues to be at the heart of building important collaborations, networks and partnerships that address the big and important questions of the day.

Please do not hesitate to get in contact if you would like to find out more about our work.
