Hosted by the Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues in partnership with The Sport Legacy Foundation, Youth Sport Trust and Reading School, this event will show how character education can be incorporated into the physical education curriculum and will explore the role sport can play in the development of character virtues such as courage, humility, resilience and leadership.

All schools should offer explicit and implicit educational activities that help pupils to develop positive personal character strengths called virtues. It is virtues that sustain a well-rounded life, are fundamental to human flourishing and ensure a thriving society. The purpose of this one-day conference is to help schools and teachers to better understand the link between character, sport and physical education.

Through their attendance, participants — whether they have already begun their character education journey or are at the very beginning — will be better equipped to explore and develop plans, activities, strategies, and approaches that embed character education into the physical education curriculum and sport related activities.

Confirmed speakers include: Professor Tom Harrison (Director, Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues), Kate Thornton-Bousfield (Head of PE and Achievement, Youth Sport Trust), Patrick Marr (Director, Leading Edge), Hayley Hampson-Stemp (Secondary PE PGDE Programme Lead, University of Birmingham), Dave Wright (Senior Assistant Headteacher, Aylesford School), Tom Evans (Assistant Headteacher, Reading School), Adam Cliffe (Head of PE, North Cestrian School).
