The Della Fish Foundation Scholarship for the Jubilee Centre’s Master’s in Character Education

The Jubilee Centre (University of Birmingham, UK) offer a Master of Arts (MA) in Character Education. The MA Character Education programme is a part-time degree that is taught online (via distance learning) over a 3-year period, enabling those in full- or part-time employment to study alongside professional responsibilities. Teaching for the next cohort (2026/27) of students commences on 28th September 2026.

The Jubilee Centre offers a tuition fee scholarship – The Della Fish Foundation Scholarship – which is available to one student joining the programme in September 2026. Further details about this scholarship can be found below.

The Della Fish Foundation Scholarship

The Della Fish Foundation Scholarship is offered with the generous support of the Della Fish Foundation. The Scholarship offers the full tuition expense (all 3 years of study) for one applicant. 

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the Della Fish Foundation Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a GMC UK registered practicing clinician.
  • Live and work in the UK.
  • Be eligible for UK tuition fees.
  • Priority will be given to applicants who are actively involved in UG and/or PG medical education. 

In addition the recipient of the Scholarship will receive a research and conference budget (inclusive of travel, accommodation, conference fees). The recipient will be expected to attend (and present) at the Jubilee Centre annual conference in 2028 and 2029.

How to apply for the Della Fish Foundation Scholarship:

The application deadline for those wishing to apply for the Scholarship is 30th June 2026.

There are two steps to apply for the Scholarship.

  1. Applicants must apply and receive an offer to study on the MA Character Education. Applications are submitted via the University of Birmingham website page, here (see ‘Apply Now’). Within the application, you will be asked about funding. Please select ‘Other’.
  2. Applicants must email Dr Paul Watts (MA Character Education Program Lead) to notify the Centre that of their intention to apply for the MA Character Education and Della Fish Foundation Scholarship.
 

The strongest applicants will be shortlisted and will be invited to interview in July 2026.

It is highly recommended that applicants outline the following in their application form:

  • Professional (and personal) experience – what experience(s) do you bring to the programme?
  • Passion, motivation and interest in the subject – why do you wish to study this degree? – how will studying this degree benefit you, the medical profession, your organisation and your community?

Once you have received an offer to study on the MA Character Education at the University of Birmingham, you will then be considered for the Della Fish Foundation Scholarship. A member of the Jubilee Centre team will write to you confirming the outcome of your application.
