This month’s blog post and teaching resources for the ‘Character in the Corpus’ project explores courage. The blog discusses the varying portrayals of courage over time, and, through touchstone passages drawn from A-Level set texts, charts the depth of meaning courage has accrued with regards to war, gender, and society. Courage proves to be particularly relevant to the thematic concerns of many of the topics covered in the English literature classroom, and its relationship to other virtues makes it well-suited to virtue literacy more broadly as well as practical aspects such as moral dilemmas. The blog can be read here, and the resources are available to view here.
