Chosen from over 1,200 entries these awards, hosted by the QS World University Rankings and The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, are considered to be the ‘Oscars in Education’. The international panel of judges are drawn from 77 countries and the grand jury selected the Jubilee Centre’s work on the character framework for its innovative and effective pedagogy, and for ‘achieving remarkable and scalable impact’ on a global stage.
Responding to the award Centre Director, Professor James Arthur OBE, shared
‘The Jubilee Centre, at the University of Birmingham, is delighted, humbled, and honoured to receive both the QS Reimagine Global Education and Nurturing Values and Ethics awards.
The award recognises the ten years of research and practice that underpinned the development of the Framework for Character Education in Schools. The Framework has had a significant impact on character, values and ethical education in the UK and globally, which is so important for individual and societal flourishing.’

Reflecting on the new Nurturing Values and Ethics award, also wont by the Centre, Emeritus Professor Yoram Wind, The Wharton School, commented:
‘This year we launched a new award category which we believe captures a fundamental mission of educators: “Nurturing Values and Ethics”. We were impressed by the volume and quality of the submissions received. I am delighted that the gold winner in this new category is the winner of the Global Education Award. Our Grand Jury recognised the importance of the work being done by the University of Birmingham in this crucial area for the future of education and humankind.’
This recognition follows a series of international accolades for the Centre including the 2019 Ferdinande Boxberger Prize from Germany and the 2020 Expanded Reason Award from the Joseph Ratzinger-Benedict XVI Foundation at the Vatican. The Framework, recently republished as a third edition, has also been the basis of tens of millions of pounds in grant-making by the John Templeton Foundation, the Templeton World Charity Foundation, and the Kern Family Foundation. A significant cash prize accompanies this prestigious honour, which the Jubilee Centre team hope to give to charitable causes focussed on supporting young people across the region.
