New Insight Series Paper: Some Thoughts on Corporate Ethics Programmes

As part of the Centre’s Insight Series, a new paper from Dr. John Upton, Rolls Royce Civil Aerospace and Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer, has been published. Titled ‘Some Thoughts on Corporate Ethics Programmes’, the paper evaluates the research within the Character in the Professions: How Virtue Informs Practice report. The paper focuses on the key findings that 69% of the sample surveyed would deviate from instructions or regulations when a potentially more ethical action was available, and that 72% of the sample would not attempt to gain an ethically questionable benefit if instructed to do so. In light of these findings, Dr. Upton discusses deontological ethical techniques and virtue ethics within corporate settings from an ethics and compliance practitioner’s perspective. The paper is available to view here.
