As part of the Virtues in Policing project, the Centre has recently published a new Insight Series paper, titled ‘Police History, Police Education in England and Wales, and the Limited Role of Professional Ethics’. Authored by Andrew Maile, this paper provides an overview of the history of policing and the associated educational and training requirements in England and Wales. A detailed overview of the three entrance routes into policing are discussed, as well as the justification for why degree qualifications are now considered as necessary for policing. The paper concludes by discussing the role of reflection and professional ethics. The full paper is available to view here.
