On Friday 23rd June 2023 at the Kiln Café, Midlands Art Centre, the Centre supported the launch of Educating Character Through the Arts, an edited collection by Dr. Laura D’Olimpio, Dr. Panos Paris, and Aidan Thompson. Professor Heather Widdows, University of Warwick, and Professor John Haldane, Universities of St Andrews and Birmingham, spoke at the event on the quality of the contributions and the importance of the collection to the fields of aesthetics, character, and education.
Educating Character Through the Arts intends to investigate the role of the arts in character education by bringing together insights from esteemed philosophers and educationalists. It looks to the arts for insight into human character and explores the arts' relationship to human flourishing and the development of the virtues.
