New Character Education Courses for Educators in Spain Virtues and Values Education Centre

Virtues and Values Education Centre, UFV

The Virtues and Values Education Centre at UFV have recently developed new courses for educators and leaders in schools and universities on character education.

Character in Schools

On 20th and 27th February, along with the 5th March, the Virtues and Values Education Centre ran a course entitled The Fundamentals of Character Education for Educators. The training consisted of three sessions which explored the importance of character education in today’s society, the essential role of virtues and the key principles for developing a school culture that has character education at its core. All the sessions have been accompanied by activities to invite participants to reflect on their own character, that of their students and on strategies to grow in virtue.

Character in University

The VEC currently has two programmes aimed at students at the Francisco de Vitoria University.

  • “Leaders of Character” (Professor in charge: Vianney Domingo): an 11-week programme aimed at 30 previously selected students from the Faculty of Law, Business and Government of the UFV, which aims to promote the acquisition of specific virtues that foster forms of leadership based on the development of character. The programme includes the following virtues: purpose and sense of mission, prudence, humility, temperance, resilience, gratitude, service and hope. This programme was launched on 7 February with a masterclass by Edward Brooks, Executive Director of the Oxford Character Project.
  • “Character education for your professional life: an urgent mission for future teachers and psychologists” (Professor in charge: Verónica Fernández): a programme that arose from the interest of the students of the Faculty of Education and Psychology of the UFV, aware of the need to know how to educate character as future professionals. It consists of 5 sessions, including workshops and visiting professors. This programme began on 11 October 2023 with an introductory session and will end with the relationship between Beauty and Virtue on 5 April, with a guided tour to the Del Prado Museum.
