13th July 2023Civic Virtues
On 6th July 2023, the Good Faith Partnership launched a report funded by the Jubilee Centre in The Jubilee Room, Westminster Hall, Houses of Parliament. Titled Virtues of Faith, the report presents research on the role of civic virtues in the life of the UK’s religious communities. Surveying over 3,000 members of the UK’s faith communities and those who are non-religious, the findings illuminate areas of significant commonality and difference throughout the diversity of religion and belief in the UK.
The survey sought quantitative responses from members of the public in the UK, of six distinct backgrounds: Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Sikhism and Humanism / no religion (based on the five largest religious groups in the UK with a non-religious cohort to explore potential synergies with the religious cohorts). Respondents were asked to select, from a list of 24 virtues, those virtues that were most important for their faith.
The results reveal compelling findings that shape not only the way we think about virtues in light of the UK’s religious diversity, but also prompt new questions and identify new opportunities for research in this exciting field.
